"Cream" Singer Jack Bruce Dead At 71

Jack Bruce, the Cream frontman and bassist, has died aged 71.

His family announced the sad news on the rock icon's facebook page on Saturday.

"It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend," the statement reads, adding: "The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

The official cause of death has not been revealed, although there are several reports Bruce suffered from liver disease. A publicist claimed: "He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family."

Bruce founded influential British rock band Cream with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker in 1966 and the three sold millions of albums, featuring big hits such as "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room." The band's release "Wheels of Fire" became the first platinum-selling double album. The power blues trio was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and later performed reunion concerts in 2005 and 2006.

Bruce was considered one of the best bass players in history, with more than a dozen solo albums released after Cream split in 1968, including Silver Rails last March.

R.I.P Jack Bruce
